English:
Mach'ay, a beautiful grey and strong Dam (she stays out all winter, even when she is covered in snow), gave birth to Thor on Tuesday. A beautiful cria and in many ways very much the same looks. Sacha Cara, who we sent with Mach'ay to Tom and Ilse in the western part of Norway, should give birth any day. Congrats to Tom and Ilse!

Aw what a beauty! He is just like his mum. Thor is a great name - we had thought of using it when we reach "T" (we are on "S" this year!). what does Mach'ay mean? Where does it come from? Our first cria is due at the end of April and I was worrying about that being too early in the year. Reassuring that one can be born in Feb in Norway.
Mach'ay means "a place for rest" in Quechua, and is a name she got from the breeder in Sweden, Österlen Alpacka. It fits her well, as Mach'ay is one of the most relaxed alpacas I've ever had the pleasure of meeting :-)
We're awayting at least one cria in Feb-March ourselves, and worried about the cold, but as long as we're there to dry the cria off and make sure it gets some protection from the cold, it should be OK. Thor was born in a warmer part of Norway, but a more windy part, and his owners were able to catch him coming out and take care of him.
